Managing Bipolar Depression
Many people with bipolar disorder find their symptoms dramatically affect their life, whether it's a depressive phase or a manic phase.
The episodes associated with bipolar depression can be overwhelming and painful. These times may be compounded by feelings of fear, embarrassment, anger, loneliness or worthlessness. The episodes and emotional symptoms can affect your ability to function and cope with your daily life.
When symptoms become serious, it's time to take action. Seek help and support from other people, a healthcare professional, a family member or a friend. Share as much information as possible with these people. Ask for their opinions, and let them help you decide which treatment options will be most helpful.
Remember that the road to getting better has many turns. Remember to ask for help along the way. Learn all you can about your own unique symptoms of bipolar depression, what works best to manage those symptoms and how you can best take care of yourself.
Be your own advocate and remember to be good to yourself. As you work with the members of your treatment team, you will find more resources and materials to help you.
